Fluid Dynamics of the Central Nervous System
We study how cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics and central nervous system (CNS) barriers change with age, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration. As CSF is involved in metabolite clearance and immune surveillance, and CNS barriers help maintain CNS immune privilege, our investigations will contribute to deciphering the physiologic basis of pathologies such as Alzheimer's disease and multiple sclerosis. more -
Computational modeling of renal oxygenation
The main motivation of this study is to understand the mechanisms involved in the regulation of the oxygenation of the renal cortex and the delivery of oxygen into the renal parenchyma. more -
Modeling of amino acid transport across cell membrane
The ultimate goal is to create a simulation environment for the transport of AAs through the cell membrane. more -
SmartShunt – The Hydrocephalus Project
SmartShunt - The Hydrocephalus Project aims at conducting the basic research necessary for the subsequent development of a smart cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt for normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). more -
Water and solute dynamics in the Brain
This project aims at developing numerical models of water and solute transport in the brain. These models will be used to test existing and devise new hypotheses of cerebral water and solute transport. more -
Blood damage in ventricular assist devices: Quantification and design optimization
This project aims at optimizing hemodynamics in ventricular assist devices for the reduction of blood damage and thrombosis, including the development of more accurate blood damage models. more -
High Resolution 3D Functional Anatomy Database of the Kidney
This project aims at developing protocols for high resolution multi-modal 3D imaging of organs and applying them to the mouse kidney. more
